James D. Berson
Executive Director - The Providence Plan
Jim Berson has worked in Providence area non-profit organizations for 20 years in a variety of roles and positions. A graduate of Brown University (’89), and the Boston University School of Public Health (where he received his Masters in 1996), Jim started his non-profit career at The Providence Center, a nationally recognized behavioral health care organization.
He left The Providence Center in 2005, where he had been the organization’s Chief Operating Officer, for a similar leadership role at Meeting Street. From 2012 - 2016, Jim served as President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Providence. Prior to his work in non-profits, Jim worked in local government in Providence from 1989-1993.
Jim has also served on a number of community boards and state agency commissions on issues ranging from early childhood development to the Quonset Development Corporation. He was elected to the Rhode Island Quality Institute Board in November of 2013.
Jim lives in North Kingstown with his wife, Lauren, and two children, Rachel and David.
