CurrentCare

CurrentCare is Rhode Island’s statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE), designed to help healthcare providers access and share critical patient health information securely and efficiently. By consolidating a patient’s clinical history from multiple sources, CurrentCare enhances care coordination, reduces redundant testing, and minimizes medical errors—ultimately leading to better patient outcomes.

Healthcare providers can also receive real-time notifications when their patients experience hospital admissions, emergency visits, or other significant healthcare events. This timely information empowers care teams to provide proactive and informed follow-up care.

Established under The Rhode Island Health Information Exchange Act of 2008, CurrentCare operates under strict privacy and security regulations, including HIPAA, to ensure that patient data remains protected. For the most up-to-date regulations, visit the State of Rhode Island’s website. CurrentCare follows the policy recommendations of the HIE Advisory Commission.

At its core, CurrentCare is committed to enhancing healthcare quality, improving patient safety, and safeguarding sensitive health information—all while supporting a more connected and efficient healthcare system.
